ABSTRACT

Professional self-interest is sometimes presented as part of a range of factors that support special education because of benefits to themselves. In considering who benefits from high stakes testing and hierarchies, Brantlinger (2006, pp. 209-219) intimates that there are benefits to test producers, transglobal capitalists, media moguls, politicians and political pundits and conservatives. Among conservatives are advocates of school privatization, enterprising school superintendents, members of the professional middle classes, and professionals and the professions.
