ABSTRACT
The last chapter focused on social and linguistic de/constructions of gender. It ended with theories of sexual difference and psychosemiotics and a discussion of the links between language, gender/sex and body. The issue of bodily materiality, which was touched on in the fi nal section of Chapter 6, will be the focus of this chapter. Here I shall take a look at feminist theories of sexual difference, embodiment and corporeality that transgress gender de/constructionism. How do they get the sexed body and prediscursive facticities of materiality onto the agenda without reproducing gender-conservative and biologically determinist and culturally essentialist positions?
