When it came to training the First Studio of MAT actors, Stanislavsky did not interfere with Vakhtangov’s work. Vakhtangov, in his daily activities, collaborated more with Sulerzhitsky than with Stanislavsky. The latter eventually proclaimed Vakhtangov the most effective teacher of the Stanislavsky technique. This statement did not undermine Stanislavsky’s ego; after all, he never taught his own technique in a classroom ( Sourcebook 2011: 6-8).
