ABSTRACT

Vakhtangov’s own studio originated in 1913—the same year the First Studio of MAT opened its doors for the audiences. Unlike the First Studio of MAT, Vakhtangov’s studio was not founded by actors. Neither was it started by Vakhtangov himself. A group of Moscow university students, who were interested in serious theatre, formed a dramatic circle. The students invited Vakhtangov, already a popular teacher at the time, to head the circle. It soon received the fitting name of The Students’ Studio.
