ABSTRACT

The rethinking of media ethics has been going on for a number of decades. The chapters it this book indicate how such rethinking is being done from a number of theoretical, philosophical and research perspectives. Probably the main impetus for rethinking media ethics is the impact of globalisation on the media and the impact of the media on globalisation, turning the world into a small place. Closely linked to the processes of globalisation is the development of information and communication technology (ICT). ICT has created far-reaching effects on how people communicate through and with media and on how they use media. New technology has created a new media environment with new media practices demanding new ways of thinking, also about media ethics.
