ABSTRACT
ACCESS TO EXCELLENCE Th omas Jeff erson High School for Science and Technology is arguably the fi nest public school in the United States. Opened in 1985 by Fairfax County Public Schools in northern Virginia, the high school off ers a learning environment and a curriculum designed for high-achievers. Courses frequently are taught in laboratory settings created through the generosity of local corporations. AT&T, for example, helped set up a Telecommunications Laboratory. Th e Life Sciences and Biotechnology Laboratory was initiated by Hazleton Laboratories, Inc. Honeywell, Inc. provided support for the Computer Systems Laboratory. Jeff erson students benefi t from state-of-the-art technology and instructors with advanced degrees.
