Building Safe Relationships
Healing from trauma begins with building safe reliable relationships. Survivors’ recuperation process may even be hindered if they are unable to bond with people in their lives (Herman, 1992). Rapport with trustworthy individuals is crucial to trauma recovery and provides a healing environment within which to strive for understanding of what occurred. This chapter focuses on rebuilding current relationships and finding new healing connections. Developing healthy boundaries and avoiding or leaving unsafe relationships are also explored.
