ABSTRACT
For any woman who finds herself attracted to other women, many questions will arise. For women who are married to men, who may have children, and may be heavily invested in presenting a heterosexual identity within the community, extended family, and church or religious organizations, the realization that she is gay is never less than problematic.Those who are geographically isolated by residence have, in the past, faced an even more difficult situation.They may lack local resources for gays and lesbians, from which they could gain information and support. In addition, especially if they are living in very conservative regions, small towns or rural areas, not only are they isolated but also likely surrounded by homophobic mythology, possibly fundamentalist religion and often traditional gender roles and belief systems about marriage and family.
