ABSTRACT

I dedicate this chapter to the memory of Eve Sedgwick, whose work has been for me not only academically productive but also liberatory.

In most world regions, more women than men publish erotica about male-male sexuality. The stories and drawings they create are usually about media characters. The relationships in which sex takes place may be among multiple partners, between a minor and an older person, among siblings, or with authority figures or foes.2 Often the sex acts are nonconsensual, violent and/or performed in public spaces. Although these representations may lie beyond real-world cultural boundaries, the theme of almost all of these works is the characters’ surmounting of obstacles in order to connect or bond.
