ABSTRACT
Although this chapter focuses on problems, it brings together key ideas relating to play. Though problems conjure up negative thoughts, the young child is a natural problem seeker (Pound 2008). This is a good starting point as the practitioner can use this inherent drive, to advantage. Communication connects the process of problem solving to the expression of solutions, making this an important skill, especially for children acquiring English.
