ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the experiences of sport tourists by looking at the dual concepts of passive and active involvement in sport-related travel, passive involvement usually referring to watching sport and active referring to participation in sport (Hinch and Higham 2001). As more research focuses on the sport consumer and their behaviour, it is becoming increasingly clear that the sport consumption experience is a complex one (Crawford 2004). Therefore, research embracing this complexity is paramount to driving the academic area forward.
