ABSTRACT

Teaching history as mystery is an idea that seeks to return the study of history to its roots in observation, analysis, and inference. Put another way, we are trying to recapture a sense of history as a kind of “undiscovered” country in which students and teachers can play detective-nding and interpreting primary evidence. Some of the evidence is missing, some is faulty, some biased, and some frequently misleading. is is to our benet as teachers. Why?
