ABSTRACT

This ninth volume in the Communication Yearbook series is much like its predecessors in that it follows the format of a series of essays, reviews, and commentaries, followed by a selection of the best offerings from ICA's 1985 divisional paper competitions. What makes this volume different is that the Reviews and Commentaries section contains a significant number of contributions from scholars outside the United States, indicative of the international vitality of the discipline of communication. Each of the 37 papers in Communication Yearbook 9 was reviewed by at least 2 of the 47 members of the CY Editorial Board; the divisional selections were reviewed first by the elected paper selection committees in each of ICA's 8 divisions and 2 interest groups. More than 70 people were involved in this "grass-roots" procedure.
