BE it in the course of travel, studies, business, or immigration, pro-longed contact between people from different cultures is becomingincreasingly common. Many kinds of relationships ensue, ranging from superficial contact to the formation of close friendships. Although there are plenty of examples of more or less peaceful coexistence and loose-knit associations across cultures, making close friends across cultures poses more of a challenge, owing to the many dimensions of intercultural friendship not existent in intracultural friendship.
