ABSTRACT

Eva’s life story goes beyond the simple description of her life. She explains and evaluates, weaving into her story the story of others including aspects of the socio-cultural-political context in which her life has been lived. Like some of the other individuals we have presented in this book, Eva’s stories are characterised by a high level of narrative intensity and by ongoing reflection, analysis and evaluation. What makes Eva’s case particularly interesting is the way in which her sense of self plays a role in her ongoing storying in such a way that it provides her with a flexibility to engage with new locations and situations in her life. In this regard her case is particularly helpful in exploring the question of flexibility – an issue that connects her narrative and narration to and contrasts it with that of John Peel.
