MAPPING THE SERVICE ENVIRONMENT

If you are to understand how your service ‘sits’ in its environment, you need a mental map that shows how the important elements of the environment relate to each other, and to you and your area of work. We begin this chapter by suggesting a way in which you can map the components of your organisation’s environment and categorise them. We identify three major parts of this map – the internal environment, the near environment and the far environment.
