Korean and get it over with. I detect a sense of irritation on his part thinking it is rude of me to hide my ability to speak Korean thereby forcing her to speak in English. I’ve been reluctant to reveal my Korean identity to her which has to do largely with my awareness of the Korean ways of behaving towards elders in Korea, the performance I have to put on when I speak in Korean, and the awkwardness of handing her money at the end of her job (which I give to her later in an envelope only to receive the response “no need envelope next time”). But there is no time to explain all this to Daniel because Sophia comes back with a soft beige piece of cloth, which Daniel tells us is called a chamois.
