ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular anomalies, congenital or acquired, are common problems in neonatal care. It is therefore inevitable that every neonatal nurse will encounter an infant with cardiac compromise within their practice. Recognising and treating cardiovascular anomalies are challenging and require good observational skills. To understand the complexities of the cardiac anomalies, it is imperative to have an understanding of fetal, transitional and neonatal circulations and the common associated problems in order to gain a greater understanding of the medical and nursing management required for each baby.
