ABSTRACT

Infants admitted into a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) will undoubtedly undergo a barrage of interventions in order to stabilise, diagnose and provide ongoing management of specific problems and conditions. A study in 1995 showed that in one cohort of infants (54 in total) over 3000 procedures were undertaken during their time in NICU (Barker and Rutter 1995).
