ABSTRACT
Reading, writing and arithmetic remained predominant in the elementary school curriculum; but in the Elementary School Code of 1904 the Board of Education laid it down that the curriculum was to be widened to include instruction in English language and literature, history, geography, music, physical training and hygiene, drawing as an aid to handwork, observation lessons and nature study; and, for the girls, cookery, laundry work and housewifery.
