ABSTRACT

Corporatism is an even more slippery concept than pluralism. As an expression of the values of social order, balance and harmony, corporatism has roots stretching back to an idealized conception of the medieval polity and to the writings of Catholic theologians. In principle, corporatist values are opposed to those of liberal individualism and pluralism. Corporatism stresses the social nature of men and their need for a systematic and stable social order, rather than opportunities for the competitive pursuit of individual freedom and happiness.
