ABSTRACT

This opening part of the book has introduced the main theoretical and methodological tools which underpin this exploration of involving young children and adults in the design of learning environments. Chapter 1.2 is based on the three overarching themes of participation, environments and relationships. Within each of these themes I have identified my theoretical frames or viewfinders through which I seek to view children’s and adults’ perspectives and to facilitate exchange through the design process. I return to and explore these concepts in the chapters which follow. My hope is that their brief introduction in this opening section guides readers through the text.
