ABSTRACT

How can adults and children be involved in discussions about future spaces? Having discussed young children’s understandings of existing spaces in Chapter 2.2, this chapter considers young children’s involvement in considering new environments. This task, by its very nature, involves dealing with abstract rather than concrete concepts. It is this abstract nature of thinking about future spaces which makes this a difficult topic to approach with young children. Adults can also find this a complex challenge. Architects wishing to engage stakeholders’ views on future spaces have explored different ways of capturing these ideas.
