The nature of general management

Any study of organizational behaviour is only fully effective if it contributes to the expertise of managers in all sectors, organizations and activities. Whatever their precise remit, at the core of managerial expertise is knowing and understanding how all their key stakeholders will think, behave, act and react to given sets of circumstances. The purpose of this chapter is therefore to introduce the application of organizational behaviour and its different ‘components’ as a crucial part of the managerial expertise demanded (see Box 20.1).
