ABSTRACT
The city of Johannesburg, South Africa, is a multilayered landscape of intersecting, overlapping and conflicting geographies, places and identities. Until recently, these were shaped almost exclusively by geological and political conditions – influences that have been replaced today by the dynamic of unbridled economic forces.
