ABSTRACT

The Consumer Credit Act 1974 has been significantly amended and updated by the Consumer Credit Act 2006. The amending legislation has been brought into force by a succession of statutory instruments.

The Consumer Credit Act 1974 as amended regulates regulated agreements, unless they are ‘exempt’ agreements. In addition, the Act contains definitions of various sub-categories of agreement, including:

debtor-creditor-supplier agreements eg Dan obtains credit from Credit Co to buy goods from Horrids department store. There are three parties to this credit agreement.
