ABSTRACT
EXAMINATION-IN-CHIEF This is the first stage in the examination of a witness at trial and is conducted on behalf of the party who has called him. In civil actions in the High Court, a witness’ pre-trial written statement may stand as the evidence-in-chief (r 32.5 of the Civil Procedure Rules 1998).
