ABSTRACT

Roxanne was a 50-something-year-old woman who began therapy because of what she described as deep depression. She lived with her second husband of 10 years in a comfortable home. She had two children from her first marriage, both of whom had minimal contact with their mother. Roxanne’s son lived abroad and had no plans to return anytime soon. Roxanne’s daughter, Jenny, lived less than an hour from her. Two years earlier Jenny “came out” and moved in with her partner. Since that time Roxanne would not speak with her daughter other than to send her messages she was “going to hell” because of her choice.
