ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors present thinking about how the counselor and the students can use innovative technologies throughout the 4 years of the curriculum. They provide an overview of important big-picture ideas that are crucial to understanding how students use technology and what students will face in this post-globalized world. The authors also include ideas on how counselors can help students optimally maximize their choices and uses of technology in the college process. Students may be great users of the Internet, but surfing the Internet is not the same as being disciplined and organized in gaining information from the Internet. Some sites include essay writing help and finding scholarships, among others. The role of technology, both positively and negatively, in the education of the 21st century student has been well documented.
