Draw like a builder, build like a writer

This is the beginning of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, set in the Hoo Peninsula in the geographic and psychological heartland of the Thames Gateway. The location is the meeting place between Pip, from the smithy, and Magwitch, from a prison hulk in Egypt Bay situated on the brown mass of the Thames.
