ABSTRACT

Sustainable economic development in general Because environmental awareness is insufficient protection against a socioeconomic system whose processes undermine our natural resource base, collaboration appears to be a promising remedy for our environmental woes. The reason is that the process of collaboration encourages stakeholders to consider economic and environmental problems jointly. The New York City Watershed Collaboration is certainly designed to address both concerns. Can watershed collaborations become green learning milieus which help move us towards sustainability? Can collaborations suffice to meet our sustainability needs? If not, what do collaborations contribute to achieving sustainability goals?
