Letters, Other Correspondence, and Related Documents

This chapter is devoted to letters, usually written by Barber to colleagues, conductors, and friends. This correspondence may sometimes seem entirely one-sided, but that is because the letters are in the collections of the recipients who seldom made copies of their replies. The main exception concerns letters from William Schuman, who would usually type the letter with a carbon copy to keep in his records. Thus in these letters we sense a true conversation, and a good rapport between two colleagues.
