On the placement journey your guide is responsible not just forhelping to fi nd opportunities for learning, but also for testing your progress. Although you are a student, and therefore not expected to know the landscape like your supervisor, there are standards that you are expected to achieve. These standards apply to your knowledge of the social work landscape and your ability to interact with it. Your conduct during the journey is part of that assessment; it must conform to the professional code of practice and be consistent with social work values. There will be formal and informal assessments of your progress and a judgement made as to whether it is good enough. You will need to learn how to collect evidence and to present it for others, so they can come to a fair and informed judgement. This process can be challenging and this chapter will help all involved to get the best out of it.
