ABSTRACT

I have analyzed step by step the processes implicated in university hiring, from constructing the unit of labor supply to exercising judgment on job candidate applications, concluding with how the “price” offered the selected candidate is determined. This has allowed me to observe how national approaches, as inscribed in the procedures and rules that frame the intersecting of supply and demand, fi t together with institutional ones, discernible in restrictions imposed by universities, and with the logic specifi c to each discipline.
