ABSTRACT

My intention in this chapter is NOT to suggest that traditional Yorùbá abandon their preoccupations with ancestral worshiping. Yet, as a critical exercise, perhaps among the sharpest yet in Èlàlòrò tradition, I am challenging some of the scholarly materials I have come across that present Egungun as having a Yorùbá origin. That one can query cultural history in Èlàlòrò discourse shows that “origin” is a primary locale of an Èlàlòrò premise and must never be taken lightly.
