ABSTRACT

Let’s begin by asking question 1, ‘What is play?’ and discover its benefits, particularly for children with learning differences, difficulties and disabilities.

Over the years, many people have attempted to define play and put forward the idea that ‘Play is a child’s work’ and that children don’t differentiate between work and play. While that is so for the younger ones, I’m sure that by age 4 or 5, they do! Suddenly tasks like drying dishes, especially at home, are things to be avoided! And yet they have many years left when play is so important. In fact, it is salutary to ask if we, as adults, ever want to stop playing.
