ABSTRACT
The chosen path of development variable will show how compatible the political-economic system of a country is with that of the EU Member States and its basic values of open markets and liberal democracy. The discussion of resources focuses on what a country can offer for trade with Europe. On the opposite end, needs of a country are addressed by European assistance programmes. Finally, readiness to pursue relations with the EU explores whether a country creates conditions for bilateral cooperation and makes steps in this direction.
