ABSTRACT

For both children and parents, a major part of the interview schedule focused on their experiences of schooling. Children were asked a series of 16 questions starting with what difficulties they thought they had at school both now and in the past, because of their dyslexia. They were then asked how they tried to cope with these difficulties and how they felt about them. They were also asked how other children and teachers reacted to their difficulties. Parents were asked a similar question about what difficulties they thought their child had at school both now and in the past because of their dyslexia. Both children and parents were asked what kind of things were generally found helpful and unhelpful in school and both were also asked to describe the best and the worst teacher that the child had encountered.
