ABSTRACT

Despite the aspirations of some of the traditionalists among us, the higher bar that has been set for satisfaction in the context of one’s personal relationship and family seems unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. While this may mean that levels of divorce and separation will stay higher than they were 50 years ago, it also means that couples are more likely to seek the help they need to be happy together or to ˜nd a way to separate respectfully with the minimum of psychological fallout for themselves and their families. All of this means that the scope for therapists to continue to help is certain to grow, now and in the future.
