ABSTRACT

A visitor observing a couples group in action will find the group absorbed in some kind of subject matter. The content of the group’s work ranges from the trivial to the most profound and from pregroup social banter to an intense grappling with life-threatening issues. In our couples group, for example, issues on a given evening can range from the quality of the mustard at the gourmet shop where clients buy coffee before the group meets to a member’s prognosis after a heart attack.
