ABSTRACT

Since the 1990s, the national discourse on Latinos has focused on the growing presence of America’s new largest minority group-who are they, where are they coming from, are they legal, and will they assimilate. Even though many scholars have documented the extraordinary diversity of the Latino population with respect to national origin, ethnic and phenotypic diversity, the face of Latinos on CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC is, more oft en than not, White or at best bronze (Candelario, 2007; Rivera, 2007).
