ABSTRACT

So far in this book we have looked at theories and approaches to management and leadership, categorizing them as rational-objectivist or reflective-pluralist. In this chapter we will look further into the implications of these perspectives for the management and leadership of social work. As will be clear from the previous chapters, these approaches are based on very different assumptions about the nature of management and leadership and they thus provide very different perspectives on how to carry out the varied tasks of managing or leading an organization. In looking at their implications for social work we will focus on specific issues that we see as having particular implications for management and leadership.
