Educational realism

The epistemic fallacy of forcing reality to conform to our ways of knowing results in an ontological divide between fact and value that in turn generates a fragmented pedagogy in which education for the transmission of knowledge is disassociated from both education for social flourishing and education for personal development. This chapter draws on the under-labouring resources of critical realism to recover a realistic framework for education grounded in the essential unity of the pursuit of truth and cultivation of truthful living.
