ABSTRACT

The Qur’an respectfully describes Christians and Jews as ‘People of the Book’ because of their commitment to Scripture: ‘O People of the Book! You have no ground to stand upon unless you stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord’ (Q5:68).1 Most Christians share this commitment to Scripture, despite a quite different understanding of the nature and content of scriptural revelation. Evangelical prioritizing of the biblical text offers an important, often unrecognized, bridge in Muslim-Christian dialogue, and one in which the evangelical community could play a more substantial role.
