ABSTRACT
The job of a TA is to act as a bridge between where pupils are and the literacy or numeracy with which they need to engage. To do this effectively you need to be familiar with your school’s policies for literacy and numeracy. These should set out the overall vision for literacy and numeracy, the objectives and reasons for teaching literacy and numeracy, and outline the ways literacy and numeracy will be taught throughout the school. Primary schools’ literacy and numeracy policies will link with the Renewed Primary Framework. In secondary schools the policies will tie in with the Framework for Teaching English and the Framework for Teaching Mathematics.
