The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 (DDA) defines a person with a disability as someone who ‘has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and longterm adverse effect on his/her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’. This automatically includes people who have chronic medical conditions which, if left untreated, will result in their death.
