ABSTRACT
We have grammatically read universality thrice. What has this achieved? My wish is that it has achieved as little as possible. I hope that it has added nothing special at all to universality and ethics in International Relations. Most of all, I hope that what grammatical readings produce is an outcome that is completely and utterly ordinary: one where we ‘bring words back from their metaphysical to their everyday use’ (Wittgenstein 1958a: §116).
