ABSTRACT
It is necessary for students of family law to be able to use their knowledge of property law principles to resolve disputes between people over ownership of property. If the persons are not divorcing, then the court has no discretionary powers under the Matrimonial Causes Act (MCA) 1973; instead, the dispute must be resolved according to normal property law rules.
