ABSTRACT
Many family law syllabuses begin by looking at the rules on who can marry and how that marriage should be conducted. Even though very few marriages are dissolved because of nullity, it remains important as the grounds for nullity tell us about the nature of marriage. Furthermore, unlike divorce, nullity enables a marriage to be ended within the first year, and for individuals who are opposed to divorce, nullity may be the preferred way of ending an unhappy marriage.
