ABSTRACT
A heavy focus on behavioural contracting and looking for solutions ± the `®x it' approach ± is a common mistake of novice therapists.
If the counsellor comes in too quickly into an outcome contracting process there is a real possibility that the unconscious processes of the client may `go into hiding' or that the client will become over-adapted to the perceived Parent of the counsellor.
